Draft, 14 Oct 2026 — to be checked by a lawyer before anyone is charged money.
What we keep
- Your account: email, a scrambled (hashed) password, the family name.
- Each learner's profile: name, languages, level, goal and trip date.
- Each lesson as text: what the learner and the tutor said (written down by the AI), the lesson summary, the sentences practised, mistakes, and a few things the learner told the tutor so it can remember them.
- No voice recordings — unless someone presses "Record lesson" on purpose.
- How much AI each lesson used, to keep costs fair.
- Simple steps of your use (for example "started a lesson", "finished a lesson", "microphone was refused", "said the lesson helped"), so we can see where people get stuck. No advertising, no tracking by other companies.
- The date and time you ticked the box agreeing to the terms.
Who processes it
The live conversation, the set-up conversation (if you set up by talking) and the lesson summaries are processed by Google's Gemini service on its paid tier. Google's terms for that service (23 March 2026) say it does not use what is sent to improve its products, and that it keeps what is sent for a limited time to detect misuse and to meet legal duties. We cannot read or delete Google's copy. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
Who can see it
Only your own account. In a family account, whoever signs in with the family's email and password can see each member's progress and read what was said in their lessons. A family member who uses their own personal phone link sees only their own lessons and progress, nothing of the others. Each learner is told this, in their own language, before their first lesson. Other families cannot see anything of yours. The person who runs this service can see each family's name, email, members, goals and progress, in order to help; not their passwords.
Deleting it
In a family, "Remove from family" deletes that person with all their lessons and conversations, at once and for good. "Delete our account and all data" (at the bottom of the family page, or of your progress page) deletes the whole account at once. Daily safety backups are kept for at most 14 days, then they are gone too.
Where your speech is processed
To understand you and to speak, the tutor sends the sound of your lesson (and of a spoken set-up) to Google's AI service (Gemini). That service runs on Google's computers, which may be in any country where Google works, not only India. Photos shown on the board come from Openverse, Wikimedia Commons and Pixabay; your phone gets them from our server, not from those sites.
How long we keep it
The words of a lesson (what you said and what the tutor said), any recording, set-up conversations, and the personal things the tutor remembered about you (for example who you are visiting) are erased automatically 180 days after the lesson. What you achieved stays so the tutor can keep helping: the date and length of each lesson, its short summary, the sentences you learnt, the mistakes to practise again, and your readiness scores. A summary can mention something personal you said. Deleting a person or the account erases all of it at once.
Setting up by talking
If you set up a trip or a family member by talking to the tutor, we keep a written record of that short conversation (what was heard, what the tutor said, what was written into the form) so that a mistake can be found and fixed. It is erased after 180 days, when anyone is removed from the family, and when you delete the account.
Getting a copy
"Download our data" (bottom of the family page, or of your progress page) gives everything we hold about your account in one file: profiles, every lesson's conversation, practised sentences, mistakes, remembered facts, readiness checks, set-up conversations, AI usage and the steps of your use. Recordings are video files: the file lists them and we send them if you ask. "Sign out everywhere" signs out every device and cancels all phone links — use it if a phone is lost.
Who it is for
Adults. The service is not meant for children.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask what we hold, have it corrected, withdraw consent and have it erased.
